Entry 23: Sometimes I Worry About Staff #2

Bill was one of the smartest staff I've ever worked with. That is, he had several advanced degrees, but lacked a lot of common sense. What he was doing in a group home I'll never know but I think it had something to do with all the weed he smoked. Very cool and mellow, easy-going guy.

He left to take a couple kids to the baseball game and when they came back, Jose barged in and bellowed, "Hey Gus, I'm drunk! Bill got us drunk!"

Gus said, "Bill what's he talking about? Please tell me you didn't."

Bill chuckled, "Of course I didn't, it was just near-beer. I can't sit through nine innings without having a cold one for myself, so got them the fake stuff."

"Oh my God, Bill, are you some kind of fucking idiot? You can get fired for that kind of shit."

Bill shrugged, "Oh well, no use talking about it now. I made a mistake, so let's just move on."

This was his standard statement after a fuck-up, one I came to hear many, many times.

"Okay, so I was doing donuts in the van with the kids. No sense in talking about it now, let's just move on."

"Okay, I didn't realize it was a nude beach until it was too late. Why do we need to beat a dead horse? Let's just move on."

"So I folded up a kid inside his mattress. I was trying to make up new ways to restrain kids. It was a mistake, I'm sorry, so let's just move on."
